Week of November 16

English II

Monday: The last sentence of chapter 4 reads, "So he [Dunstan] stepped forward into the darkness..." Write a page about what happens next in the story. Make up whatever you think will happen. You could include characters like Silas, Dunstan, Godfrey, William, Sarah, Nancy, or Squire Cass. You could discuss the setting or other things that have happened in the plot. You predict! What will happen next?

Tuesday:
Define irony and listen to song "Ironic" by Alanis Morisette. Find examples of irony in the song.
Read chapter 5 Silas

Wednesday:
Chapter 6 and 7 in Silas

Thursday: Chapter 8 Silas

Friday: Chapter 9 Silas

Monday: Five paragraph essays due
Open book/open note test: Revolutionary writers and Romantics

Tuesday:
Read "Olaudah Equiano" p. 78
Watch clip of Amistad for visual imagery.
Make a list of how the slave ships looked, sounded, felt, tasted, smelled.

Wednesday:
Read "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" and "The Gettysburg Address"
BONUS: Write a story that uses flashback as an element.

Thursday:
Twain background
Read Huck Finn chapter 1, summarize 2 and 3

Friday:
Huck Finn Chapters 4,5,6

Pre-AP English III

Monday:
Writing: Write a narrative that uses the literary technique of flashback, using "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" as a model. Write about what you know about, using things from the area around you (the ideas of REGIONALISM that we will be discussing with Huck Finn)
Read chapter 1 from Huck for homework.

Tuesday:
Huck background, go over chapters 1-3; read chapters 4 and 5, summarize 6

Wednesday:
Huck chapters 7, 8, 9; read 10 for homework

Thursday:
Word Study 12 due; quiz
Huck chapters 11-14

Friday:
Huck chapters 15-17; finish those for homework if needed.
